Yay for posting! (only said by those who have no one to hang out with this weekend)

Here is the foyer that all four of us share. It has a sink, huge mirror, shower, and toilet. Toni and Emily moved their fridge and microwave into the area as well. My room is the door to the right of the coats.

So, in my lonliness I have decided I will eat, do laundry, and work. Oh yes, and post pictures of my dorm room (Rianna did after all). I don't know if any of you really care, but here they are nonetheless:

Here is room 907. I share the area with three girls, Emily, Toni, and Sam.

This is a close-up of the cool little name-tag things that our RA, Jenna made for us. Too bad that I'm not going to be showing as much school spirit as these little name-tags suggest (I'm going home over homecoming and likely not going to the football game or parade).

This is the view of my room from the foyer. My bed and stuff is on the left side of the room and Sam occupies the right side.

Underneath my lofted bed I have my huge and comfortable chair. I brought along another desk which turned out to be more of a shelf for books, movies, food, etc. On top is the beautiful picture James painted for me as a graduation present. Unfortunately, the picture is too heavy to hang on the wall with only sticky tack.

Here is my actual desk where I do homework (sometimes). It has a huge corkboard backing it which is quite useful. As you can see, I'm kind of messy. Love fern is immediately behind the chair (you can see one of it's limbs).

Last, but certainly not least, my room would not be a college dorm room without my roomate Sam. She's really laid-back and nice. Oh, and to any of the guys out there, I'm sorry, but she has a boyfriend.

Hey everybody!! I'm super excited to be coming home to see everyone this weekend! Hmm, toughts since I last posted... Flannel Thursday was pretty good. Don't worry, Gender Role Reinforcement Day protestors, I had other support that did not have the task of protesting a really bad choice of dress up day. I am sooo proud of you guys!!! I wish I was there to wear black too. I now have black pants, so I would have. It's really cold, have you guys noticed that? I was going to post this directly on the blog, but my computer's pop up blocker says otherwise, and I can't seeem to shut it off today. Soo, go here if you want to watch a music video about how it can be summer any time of the year!! Yeah!! Sidenote, it's completely in German, but the song's still fun for those of you that can't understand it. I finally saw a bible on campus yesterday. I've been here three weeks, and this is the first time I've seen one. The guy that came to speak to our "Exploring Money" class about what Christians think about money had a bible. Go figure. In other news, the lecture by Amitai Etzioni was AMAZING!! His lecture on the moral voice was super interesting. I liked it, anyway. I only wish I could have gone to the lecture on New Communitarianism. I have to go to class, but I will see most of you tonight!

...Hangin' Round the Ink-Well.

Salutations!

Alright, being as this is the first night yet this year that I've actually finished my homework before dawn, I am going to write a very long and pretty report on the happenings of "G.I. Joe and Barbie Day" A.K.A. "Gender Role Reinforcement Day" (Copyright: Manly Mustaches).

We had a grand total of 14 black-clad protestors (sorry Rianna, I couldn't find any black flannel, but next Thursday we will be fully promoting Flannel Thursday!) and three half-protestors who reportedly "wore black for us, but not all black because that's just tacky." In total, that brings us to 14.5 protestors, which is a pretty good count. My one fear was that people would think we'd dressed up to be a SWAT team, but Alicia's Duct Tape Label, "Say 'No' to Gender Roles," off-set that. It was a sweet sacrifice on her part, because she spent the rest her day being plagued by people stopping her to ask her what she had against gender roles. Good ole', good ole' Brainerd.

The cross-dresser count was at least five; props to men in dresses. One kid was all decked out with fake glitter-eyelashes and hot-pink lipstick. Had he sung "The Beat Goes On" he could have been both Sonny and Cher.

I lost count of G.I. Joes, G.I. Janes, and Barbies: there were so many, the high school felt like an enchanted Mattel Company. For every high-healed punctured floor tile, there was a pair of army-boots to flatten it back out. And in the midst of it all, Principal Heiza standing on the balcony teasing the boys who didn't dress up like "everybody's favorite action hero." Now there's a fellow I can respect. Seniors: be glad you escaped when you did. Heiza has a zit-like ego: tempting to pop, but quick to leave a scar. I'll be the first to say it: I miss the Raz. That just goes to show: you don't know what you've got 'til it’s gone.

I only wish they'd scheduled the Senior Class Picture for today: that would have been precious.

On a lighter note: YIG Informational Meeting Tonight. That was fun. For anyone who's interested but couldn't make it to the meeting: find me, I have forms. It's a positively LIFE CHANGING experience.

Ooh! On an even lighter note, it was my mom's b-day today. We took her out to dinner. We fed her cake. It was fun.

Ooh! On an even, even lighter note (hold you breath, if we get any lighter, we might kiss the exosphere), it’s Thursday!

I'm going to give you two Words of the Thursday because, well, they're both such nice words, and as we all know, you can never have enough nice words!

Aesthete \ES-theet\, noun:
One having or affecting great sensitivity to beauty, as in art or nature.

Prelapsarian: Relating to any innocent or carefree period in the past.

Alright, I'd better get going, hope you are all doing well, can't wait to see Rianna and Crystal this weekend! I hope your work is nice to you, Sarah! Kara... I have a quote from Shelty in Euro yesterday that should also lighten your day (grab a star for me, while your up there) "Hey look! It's a Santa Pope!"

Now, if you'll all excuse me, I have to get my head out of the clouds and back into Feed. No homework means time to fun-read!

Whoa!

Holy Crap. I stop reading this blog for 5 hours, and suddenly half the world and their cousin has posted on this blog. Whoa. It took me 20 minutes just to read and respond to everyone's posts.

I too missed Gilmore Girls, Sarah, so don't feel bad. I went out to dinner with my Step Dad. I'm so glad to hear from you, and I love the articles. I really want to learn how to swing dance. I'll up you on the crime, though. Two weeks ago, two students were walking on Minehaha Avenue at 11:30 P.M. and they got robbed. Huh. Go figure. You walked with one other person down a major street in St. Paul at 11:30 at night and you got robbed?!?! Shocking! Or not. Anyways, this week, a student was held up at gunpoint. There was a meeting about campus security, but I didn't go, because it was at 7 P.M. on Tuesday. Lots of stuff going on at that time.

I started my new job today, it was pretty fun. I spent half the night talking to people about what they did in high school. One lady suggested I join the "Ladies Society" on campus. I don't know if it even exists anymore, but she was really excited about it, so I listened intently. I did manage to get $200 in pledges tonight. That was pretty sweet.

On a side note, tomorrow is the speech by Amatai Etzioni, and I'm pretty pumped! Oh, and don't forget, tomorrow is Flannel Thursday! Everybody wear your flannel! I did laundry just for this occasion. Let's see, the random Stephen Colbert quote: Guy from PBS: "How come so many young people watch your show as opposed to Public Television?" Stephen: "Because it's good." Goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow.

All things considered

In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point.

Today went better than expected. I pretty much walked into school swamped with all the homework I had to do for Monday and all the homework I was afraid I was going to have due now that I'm back. Luckily, excluding Niemi, no one really piled on the homework, and since the only class I don't mind doing homework in is Lang, that's probably a good thing.

In unrelated news, my wisdom teeth are coming in and causing my entire jaw to swell. It's this really fun raw, throbbing sensation that starts around four in the afternoon and lasts until I go to bed, and this wouldn't be an issue if I wasn't such a horrible self medicator. Of course, I only blame myself for that, but I'll be glad when these teeth are out, which means December 27 can't come soon enough.

Just curious, who here is going down to the cities on Saturday to meet the governor, but really to visit the Science Museum? And who is thinking that the 6:20 roll call is much too early? I figure I'll bring a couple books and catch up on my reading.

An extra quote today!

"[The Vatican] is like Disney World for the soul."
- Credit will be given if the author would like to be revealed, let's just say it made my day brighter

The world hasn't ended?

Oh my gosh! I woke up this morning and the world indeed is still here and I still had to attend my math class at 8 AM. The reason I would doubt the world's continued existence...I missed the Gilmore Girls season premier last night! Yes...how very sad. However, I still have to say that I had an AWESOME night. Lots of fun...yes...lots. So the story:
I was reading my e-mails when I came across one stating that the Bible study I've been attending was having another session Tuesday at 7 PM (exactly when Gilmore Girls is on). I called my mom and now my sister will tape every episode for me since Bible study is every Tuesday at 7 PM. Anyway, I met Kim, my Bible study leader at the Union and we went with another girl (small turn out) to Babb's (a small coffee shop in downtown Fargo). I had the Sunset in Seattle tea, very good and just got to hang out with "the girls" for a while. An overall nice experience. After this I was suppose to go to meet Aaron (a guy I met in my English class) to go swing dancing. He was suppose to give me a ride, but Kim dropped me off in front of the Avalon (where Fargo Swings is held). I saw people walking into the center and I realized I was totally under-dressed as women in heels with cute dresses and perfect curls walked by me. I felt much better when I saw Aaron was wearing jeans and tennis shoes just like me. I met his two friends and I tried to learn how to swing dance. It was so much fun!!!! I was really bad, but I had a few good dance partners who tried to help me get the hang of it. On top of that, I saw 4 people I knew, when I thought I would likely see no one I knew. I ran into my suite-mate Emily and her boyfriend, and then I ran into Jeff (Johann) from band, Karla, and Ariel. Wow...my social life has just expanded. Basically it was an all around good time.
Ok...now aside from my fun night...I was just reading the USA Today's Sept. 26th, 2006 newspaper and found these items funny:
In an article, Do thin models warp girls' body image?, Kelly Cutrone (owner of a company that produces fashion shows around the world) states in reference to models, "Women shouldn't be comparing themselves with these girls..." and goes on to say,

"'These girls are anomalies of nature. They are freaks of nature. They are not average. They are naturally thin and have incredibly long legs compared to the reast of their body. Their eyes are wide set apart. Their cheekbones are high.'"

So basically, these fashion companies expect women to buy their clothes when they are made to fit "freaks of nature." Hmmm...last time I checked, I want clothes that fit me. I thought that the fashion business was just that, a business. They want people to buy their clothes and have them fit, fit consumers, not just models who are "anomalies of nature." This just reminds me of debate days, someone talking themselves into a corner. In trying to convince the reporter that models don't or shouldn't cause self-esteem issues among young girls, she derides models and makes the fashion industry sound contradictory.

Ok, so that's not all...in addition (if you're not sick of reading by now) I also found another article in the same newspaper, Good news, bad news about smoking. Apparently

"A Colorado city ban on smoking at workplaces and in public buildings may have sparked a steep decline in heart attacks, researchers reported Monday. In the 18 months after a non-smoking ordinance took effect in Pueblo in 2003, hospital heart attacks for city residents dropped 27%, says the study in the journal Circulation led by Carl Bartecchi of the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver."

I find the correlation between the decline in heart-attacks and the city ordinance to be a bit lacking. Is 18 months really enough time to see the results of something like that? I find it highly doubtful and think this article was merely a space filler.

So moving on...(a tribute to Rianna) on a scarier, more unfortunate note, there was another crime on campus. Some girl was robbed and almost sexually assaulted (would've been if she hadn't resisted). Makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
That's all for now folks.

basically for the sake of posting

so... I haven't posted in like a week. I am still alive. I just haven't really had anything to post about. Except now. I'm coming home this weekend. I'll be in Brainerd around 9ish, and to all of you headed to Perkins after band, I'll be by around 10ish, assuming you're all still there. then off to Kara's. I'll be spending the night at Kara's (oooh... fire!) then Saturday I'm going to hang out at home with my family. Josh is coming down along with two of his friends so we'll probably just have fun and eat some. Dinner is around 7, we're having chicken and gleasans (mmm.. family recipe. much like chicken with flat dumplings. yum.) Sunday, I have no idea. probably Logan's. Jann has the day off. :D then I'll have to leave by 2:30 to make it back for my stupid clarinet sectional. at least that way I'll have time for homework when I'm -not- at home. so yeah. plans for this weekend! yay! maybe this week won't be as horribly long as last week because I have something to look forward to? hope so. *nods*

Aww... Madison

The Christian resolution to find the world ugly and bad has made the world ugly and bad.
Source

So, I think I should preface all of this with saying the lack of pictures here is due to my camera being very uncooperative yesterday while I was in Madison. I came home and took three pictures without the camera telling me the batteries were dying but when I was in Madison, it didn't want to take pictures. Hmm... maybe that's a sign that I should go there.

Isn't that a gorgeous red folder? They gave it to me when I showed up at the informational session. If it wasn't glaring red and had the Wisconsin logo plastered across the front, I would probably use it because it's a really good folder. On a side note, I'm really becoming bored with information session that was my fifth, official, one and they all tell you the same thing.

This guy is just one example of all these men standing on the corners throughout the campus handing out Bibles and trying to save me. My dad and I speculate that they chose old men because they're respectable and people will listen to them.

Again, had my camera not hated me, I would have taken more pictures of the cows. This is just one example; some of them were pretty cool, but I don't actually remember the explanation for them. I do remember it was rather anti-climatic.

This is the outside of one of the student unions. I really liked the colorful chairs.

And the best part of the entire campus. I really did like the lake. However, what you can't see from these pictures that there is a gigantic hill in the middle of campus that I would have to walk over about four times a day, and I'm not sure I really liked the layout of the campus. Otherwise, it's a beautiful school with very nice things. I'm just not sure I liked it more than the University of Minnesota, but if it comes down to those two, I'll have to visit the U again before I make my decision.

Waaaah!

That's my "waaah! I'm alive!" statement. I am still breathing...barely. jk. Ok...so what has happend? Well, last week on thursday I drove to the Greyhound bus station to say goodbye to James. Farewell my good friend! He will be returning in July if anyone didn't know that. He's doing well by the way for anyone concerned. Ok...and I've been busy doing homework...or procrastinating. I just finished typing my research paper that's due tomorrow. I still have to edit it, but I at least wrote it, which is definitely a good thing since it's worth 10% of my grade (a rather large portion if you really consider it). I also worked this weekend (what's new?). I showed up early for my shift too. ooops. I plan on going swing dancing this tuesday! Wooohooo! This guy I met in English, Aaron, goes every week and so he offered to give me a ride. I'm prett excited to make a fool of myself (Rianna, Sara, you both know my coordination...just look at the time I tried to "fly"...wow). Anyway...when I see you next Rianna, if your knee is feeling fabulous, perhaps I will finally be able to sweep you off of your feet. hehe.
My stress is going down a considerable amount after tonight. Ahhh. No more research paper and I don't have to worry a ton about James anymore...(as I said he's safe). I wish I could come home this weekend for homecoming, however I work. Yup. I am planning on taking some time off in October though. We'll see. If anyone has any suggestions as to a time, I'm open.

Take a right, no, left, no, right...

Hola!
So... pretty sure you should all go check out www.politicalcompass.org. I know Kara's seen it before, but for those of you who haven't, it's pretty neat. It's a survey of all sorts of questions about economy, government, et cetera, that maps you out on a 10 point survey chart called "the Political Compass." It's nothing to base your life off of, but it's just kinda fun and I got a kick out of it. Then again, I get a kick out of C-SPAN, so, maybe I'm just weird like that.

Here's how I ended up.

The Political Compass

Economic Left (-)/Right(+): -7.25
Social Libertarian(-)/Authoritarian(+): -7.18

Anyway, have fun, like I said, just go check it out. No political controversies, though, after today's AP European History Class discussion on the Reformation- watching Logan and Catherine battle over Purgatory and Transubstantiation and attempting to gnaw a hole through the wall for escape, that would just be ugly. Like, we're talking Bald Cat Ugly. We're talking Bald Cat bathing in acid kind of ugly. We're talking Bald Cat Bathing in Acid and gluing a shag-carpet toupee to itself kind of ugly.

Well, I think you get my drift.

T-t-t-that's all folks!

P.S. A Eulogy for Sarah, with love.

Sarah had a little plant
little plant
little plant
Sarah had a little plant
who's leaves were green as jewels.
It followed her to college one day
college one day
college one day
it followed her to college one day
and they both apparently fell off the edge of the earth and weren't heard from in days.

P.P.S. YAY! Sarah's back! Ignore previous Euology.

I'm offering this for anyone to look at. Read it, and tell me if you think it is as wrong as I think it is.

Flannel Thursday

In honor of James, or just because it's fun, I think we should revive the ever so popular "Flannel Thursday." All those who love lumberjacks, the north woods, flannel, or weird dress up days that nobody else knows about should where anything resembling flannel on Thursday this week. I think it would be fun. I brought my flannel for this sole purpose, so you know I'll be wearing it. Bonus points to whomever takes a picture in their flannel and puts it on this and/or any other blog. I know this guy would approve!

The Cove-not

Hello, hello College Buddies!

Wow, it's been a busy few days! My grandparents came down from Thief River and my cousin is coming up from St. John's for my brother's confirmation tomorrow- so we had to purdy up the house, wash the dog, and talk the squirrels into postponing their attack until after our guests have left. It cost us a loaf of stale bread, but it should be just enough to distract them until Monday.

Let's see... Friday night, my brother had a date with a certain female friend of his and her best friend. He ended up paying for both of them for dinner and a movie so, essentially, he had two dates, but only one of them decided she was his girlfriend. They've been going out for a grand total of three days: a relationship which he plans to end at a grand total of five days when he sees her at school on Monday. The reason? Well... the poor imp lied to her parents about the date, her Dad found out, came to pick her up in a pretty fury, and left my very innocent and confused young Nicholas with three theatre tickets and a broken heart. (Actually… he was relieved. Apparently it wasn’t going very well. )

Being the loving sister that I am and not wanting to waste $21 dollars on unused movie tickets, I abducted Shelty and the two of us escorted Nick to the movies.

Anyway, we ended up seeing "The Covenent," which was about five unhealthily rich boarding school kids and their magical powers. They drove convertibles, slept in their underwear, and cast spells on one another. Hours of entertainment, right there. Here's how we ranked it on a scale of 1-10:

Graphics: 10
It was like watching the Matrix... only without the plot, characters, background, or Keanu Reeves.
Music: 9.5
It lost half a point for the ripping guitar cord that struck halfway through the dramatic fight seen.
Characters: -1
I've met milk spills deeper than the characters in this movie.
Plot: 2
The whole attempted at Salem-witch trial families' progeny was, well, an attempt... it gets three points for having more depth than the characters it involved.
Script: 11
Pretty sure the script was the most amazing composition of cliché’s and bad lines this side of "Batman Begins". Favorite Quotes include:

~ "You Ready to say Uncle?" ---- "I'm ready for you to go to hell."

~ "Why are you doing this?" --- "More.... POWER!"

~ "I'm going to make you my Wi-otch."

~ “Come to save little Ms. Muffet, have you?”

~ "Harry Potter can kiss my ass." (Excuse the language.)

If anything, it was worth a couple of laughs. Michelle and I agreed that it reminded us a lot of that Lang multiple choice from two weeks ago… the one about "Books made to be films"? (Yes, I know, it's sad, but there's no better example.) This movie reminded me of a "film made to be a film": easily as ridiculous as the book made to be a film. They got waaaay too caught up in the special effects (which were really neat- despite their context) to pay any attention to their IQ-disolving characters.

That was the big adventure of my Friday. Today, Kara, Kubas, Brian and I went to Walker to debate in front of Speech coaches. It was fun and it went pretty well, minus rustiness on my part when it came to the rebuttal. Naturally, Kubas was a speech god, and Kara and Brian also did an awesome job: super smooth. Kara sounded like she'd been in debate for at least five years. You're born for it, dear! Rianna, you would be very proud. She sounds just like you! It's the confident, laid back, "so here's the story..." attitude.

Overall, it's been a fun weekend. I liked the weather, but I'm just weird and nostalgic for Scotland. *sigh* I miss my sheep!!!

Alright, good night! Happy weekend! Hope everyone is doing well and taking care of themselves. Much love!

-Sra

P.S. Don't worry, I asked my brother's permission to tell the world about his "horrible, excruciating, demonic, awful, torture-some, loath-filled date that really sucked." And that is a direct quote.

On calling people, models, bridezillas, and tests

Hello All!
A special shout out to our dear Sonja in Germany. How's it going? I assume you got there all right, so do you have any idea when you're coming back? Classes are going wonderfully, not too much homework! I hope all is well.
In other news, I started training for my job at the call center last night. This is going to be a piece of cake! All I have to do is persuade people that I'm right. Hmmm, what extra cirricular activity I may have participated in in high school does that sound like? The guy training us is super fun! He knows a lot, and makes this whole training thing fun, which is good, because otherwise it could be really boring.
Hmmm, speaking of news, I was watching the news the other day, and was super pleased to hear about new legislation passed in Spain. Apparently, they have made it law that if the models are not within the safe Body Mass Index for their height, they cannot walk the runway. This was done as part of a special report, so the reporter went to a fashion show in New York to see how many of the models could have walked in spain. Anyone want to take a geuss? Out of 20 models, one of them could have walked the runway in Spain. One. And if she lost two more pounds, she would not have been able to. You know what the worst part is? She started freaking out about how fat she was. Wow. I think maybe the US should copy Spain and make these people be a normal weight.
As recent talk about weddings has come up often in this blog and casual conversation, I thought you all might be interested to check out this "Dear Abby" type letter. I thought the response was priceless.
The rain recently has affected my mood as well. Yesterday I was in an off mood. Not depressed or crabby or anything, just off. I was suddenly very aware of things that ticked me off about the world. Things like poverty and the government. That's just what kind of day it was yesterday. I do hope today is better. Especially because yesterday's mood brought with it the need to consume everything with sugar in it that managed to get in to my line of sight. That's bad.
Hmmm, let's see. I can't really think of anything else to report. In that case, I believe it's time for my random Stephen Colbert quote: "If someone fails a test, it means they have to do something. It means they have to study harder, or pick out a baby name..." "True or False: Who the hell do you think you are?" There you are, your random Stephen Colbert quotes for this post. Happy dreams everyone!

"Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down"

Digressions, objections, delight in mockery, carefree mistrust are signs of health; everything unconditional belongs in pathology.
Source

I think the rain is slowly driving me insane. I know we need rain, but by the end of today, I just wanted to see the sun, even for a few minutes. And my day was crappy... not for any particular reason, just a whole bunch of little reasons. By the time I hit Chemistry, I had considerably more homework than I wanted to contemplate. It's not even hard homework, there's just a lot of it. And I think I managed to tell half my teachers I wasn't going to be there on Monday, but oh well, I'll manage just fine.

It probably hasn't helped that I haven't written anything in about two weeks. That's normally a sign I'm about to go loopy, but I just haven't felt any ambition or desire to write, which is sad.

But exciting things for Rianna: Sara, Kubas, Brian and I are going to Walker tomorrow to Debate in front of Northern Minnesota speech coaches. It should be a nice break for my Saturday. Then on Sunday I'm heading to Madison; maybe I'll bring my camera and take some pictures while I'm there. Who knows? Homecoming is next week; kill me now. And on Friday, I'm so leaving before the pep fest. I've attended one of those things and that was too many.

Ah! Nothing's really exciting here Rianna. I promise the moment it becomes exciting I'll let you know.

Trekkies, Mafioso, and Rodent Militia

Hello! It's me dropping in again, just thought I'd toss my word in on here so...
Greetings, College Buddies!

Oh, and, for the record, Kara, I'm counting you as a College Buddy because, well, you are. In my book, you were a senior last year and you just hang out at the high school to keep the other super geniuses from taking over.

There's not too much "going down" in my little world. My dog snuck out and ate all of the squirrel food in our back yard: dried corn and all. That's a lot of food for a dog whose greatest ambition is to be as big as our neighbor's cat: though this little expedition should put her well on the way to meeting that goal. The squirrels aren't very happy with her though: I hear chatterings of a siege... possibly a retaliatory pantry raid: acorn bombs and the like. It's kind of scary. If you don't hear from me for awhile, do my family a favor and call animal control. Or NASA. I'm not sure who would take the deeper interest.

Let's see... what else? I stumbled across www.StarTrek.com. Oh, Gene Roddenbury, shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Maybe a winter afternoon. Either way; I think I'll very happily remain a Popcorn Trekkie. Television as snack food. Nothing I'll base a diet off of, but, hey, how can anyone not be amazed by the great philosophy of Jean Luke Picard?

I agree with Kara about Interact, I'm really looking forward to my Wednesday mornings throughout the school year; just because, if anything, Linda is awesome.

Alright. I'd better finish up my homework or the Common App. or my Scholarship Essay or cutting Debate cards or... well, you get the picture.

Hope you're all doing well!
Oh yes, and Sarah? Where are you?! You can't be spending that much time tending the love fern!
Much love
-Sra

P.S. I know Kara is Master of the Quote of the Day, so, in lieu of stepping in on her territory, I hereby claim a Word of the Thursday. Starting this Thursday:
Goombah: goombah (GOOM-bah) noun

1. Friend, accomplice, or crony.

2. Godfather or mentor.

3. Gangster or Mafioso.

4. A companion or associate, especially an older friend who acts as a patron, protector, or adviser.

Excitement

To predict the behavior of ordinary people in advance, you only have to assume that they will always try to escape a disagreeable situation with the smallest possible expenditure of intelligence.
Source

All right, so not really, excluding the hellish morning of three consecutive tests it was a fine day; trust me, that's why I always want to wake up to. Umm... excitement in Kara's life... I have a cold! Yes, it's all my sister's fault, and now I have a nice cough and runny nose. I went to InterAct this morning; no offense to Key Club, but I think I'm going to like InterAct better. Reason number one; it's Linda. Cummings is nice enough, but I'd rather have Linda's energy in the morning. Second, I don't actually have to do anything except show up. What's this responsibility thing? And why must I actually possess it?

I volunteered over at the Chamber of Commerce for about an hour yesterday after fifth hour and before Debate, bad decision. It was clerical work. Now, no offense to the secretaries around the world, but that could never be my job. I'd go insane; in fact, a typical nine to five job with a cubical would always probably make me insane. So, that was my revelation of the week, and I have now realized that for the next seven weekends I have something going. I thought weekends are when I'm relaxing. Okay, so two of those are travel days in between what promises to be a very relaxing vacation maybe those don't count.

Otherwise, not much else. It's been a rather uneventful week, which is nice. So I'm debating finishing my Spanish and then heading off to bed to get lots of sleep tonight, which makes me happy.

Pictures!!

I apologize for those of you that don't care about pictures , but Sarah asked for them, so here they are! They're kind of in a weird order, but they still kind of give you an idea of my room and hall. I'll take pictures of campus when it's not raining. Enjoy!

Here's my hall. It's really pretty boring at this time a day. Usually the doors are open and people are here. Sarah, the BOY lives through the left hand door, since you had such a tough time with that concept...
This is the only really interesting thing on my door, my name plate thingy. Cool, huh?
Here's my closet. And my clothes. The rest of them are in the drawers below the closet.
This is my desk. It's really a nice desk. I like it anyway...
This is my non existent roomate's bed.

This is my bed, and to the right, you will see the new boots described in the previous post.

This is my room. Small, but comfortable.

So there's the tour of my room. Thanks for stopping in, and this concludes this episode of MTV's "Cribs." Sorry if this bored you!

Oh Yeah!

I'm writing this after eating ice cream for lunch. Reason, you ask? I GOT A JOB!! That's right, I am gainfully employed, and all it took was 15 min on the phone with the gal that hired me. I'll be doing calling for the Hamline offices. See, they call Alumni every once in a while just to see how things are going, and hopefully they then donate. So, the interview is a phone interview, since they obviously don't care what you look like, and they need to know your phone skills. After 15 min, she told me I had, "exactly the phone skills we're looking for, come in and fill out the paper work sometime tonight or tomorrow." SCORE!! Anyways, I am super excited, as I don't have to stand at all to do this job. Let's see, in other news, my mom came this weekend. That was super fun! It was really nice to spend the weekend with her. We went shopping on Saturday, so I spent $50 at Old Navy. Plus side: I now have winter clothes that fit. Recent weight loss had wiped out my previous wardrobe. We went to CostCo over the course of Saturday, and My Mom bought me the custest pair of boots for when it snows. They're basically those Ugg boots, only more of a walnut color. I love them, and the were only $35 (designer price: $140). My mom also brought my cord for my Digital Camera, so look for pictures soon. I may even post a picture of the boots, we'll see. As far as excitement for this week goes...It's premier week!!! That means I will find out what happens between Luke and Lorelai, whether or not Jim Brass dies, and what the force is that's stealing souls. Will it get Melinda Gordon? Super excitement over that. So yeah. That's basically my week, besides this damn thing called homework that keeps getting in the way of my fun. Hope all is well on the homefront, whever that may be. If we're starting sign off phrases, then I so call dibs on "Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow."

Avoidance is the best strategy

Is man merely a mistake of God's? Or God merely a mistake of man's?
Source

I've been home for a little over an hour, but decided to post now because I'm bored and really should be doing something other than this.

The trip to Moorhead was really great; I was quite happy to see Crystal again, especially since I won't most likely see her again until Thanksgiving. Shopping was fun, and I bought Lolita; I'm about fifty pages into it and it's quite good, in a disturbing way. The highlight was probably going to see Sarah at Herberger's. I've missed you lots and lots, and it was really nice to see you. The obvious low light was going to rent a movie and then preceding to realize none of us were old enough to set up an account, but we drove around town for hour and a half looking to see if we could find somewhere to rent/buy the movie. Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, Cashwise doesn't have inter-connection between their stores.

At the moment, I really should be doing either my Psychology (finishing reading Chapter 2 and glancing over Chapter 1 again) or finish reading Chronicle of a Death Foretold, which I also really like. Niemi and I are going to get along just fine in our collective feministic ways.

...Bittersweet-ness

Kara and Logan just left. This weekend was amazing. It was wonderful to see them again... it had been three weeks since I'd seen Logan and about three and a half since I'd seen Kara. We didn't do much beyond eat, shop, and watch movies, but I still had a blast. It was really the first time I'd been out and off campus since I got here. Oh. I have expensive pants now. and a shirt with a zipper... that I didn't know existed until after I had tried it on. this shows my experience with expensive clothing (aka none) but yeah. I have concert clothes. that's probably a good thing.

So as amazingly wonderful as it was to have them here this weekend, it was equally as horrible to watch them go. not that it wasn't worth it, but the fact remains. I was very proud of the fact that I only cried for 5-ish minutes. and it wasn't even constant. it was more of the "oh. they're leaving. they can't leave. *watches car drive away* *waves* *cries a little* *composes self* *thinks of something stupid we did* *starts crying again* *composes self* *types on blog* *cries again* etc...

Thanks, guys. I really don't think you could possibly know how much it meant to me to have you here. plus by posting this now, I have two hours to decide whether to leave it or not. damn. crying again.

Tay's Mexicans

Hello again.
Did Kara tell you guys what the new debate resolution is? Whether or not the U.S. should enforce current immigration laws. Deebs was cracking up! Considering Brainerd's anti-mexican reputation, it will be an interesting month! (Sorry, Tay...)

Here's a link to one of the crack-sites I found while researching. Some group who says Mexico doesn't have a problem with poverty. I love the quote from their main page:
"We have formed THE AMERICAN RESISTANCE FOUNDATION to confront the powers that would destroy our Republic and our way of life. We recognize that silence is consent. It is our intention to bring together and focus the power of the millions of angry citizens and the many small groups who will no longer be silenced. Our nation is being invaded and colonized. As is our duty, We the People will resist."

The line about "invading and colonizing" is the real clincher. And, you know, how can anybody just not respect a group called the American Resistance Foundation??? The bit about "silence being consent" is great, too. So many ways to solidly abuse that phrase...

Alright, much love. Hope you Far-goers had a good time, drive safe!

Before the road trip

At times one remains faithful to a cause only because its opponents do not cease to be insipid.
Source

So, hmm... it's Friday! Yes! That's all very exciting, and what's even more exciting is the fact that in less than an hour I shall leave to go and pick up Logan and from there we will proceed to Moorhead to see Crystal!

I was supposed to have four tests/quizzes today; in the end, I only had three since when I showed up in Pelkey's room sixth hour he had mysteriously disappeared. I waited around for about twenty minutes before I went and got gas in the truck and picked up my sister from school. I guess I'm taking my Stats test on Monday. My other tests went quite well, from what I can tell; I think I did very well on the Chemistry test, unless I made a stupid math error, which I doubt. But that's good; I did have some anxiety about that class and Stats, but the content thus far has relaxed me quite a bit. Euro might be a slight problem just due to the sheer amount of reading required, but I will manage it somehow.

My homework for the weekend is relatively minimal; studying for Psych, finish Chronicle of a Death Foretold, and do something for Debate.

But I should really finish packing, so hopefully I'll be here tomorrow if not. Definitely on Sunday! :) Oh, and Sarah you should give us a call; we're going to be in Fargo tomorrow shopping.

Quote?

Dearest Kara...oh where was our quote for yesterday? Oh how I miss reading those always optimistic and joyous thoughts of Nietzsche. Not too much is going on here. I did just find out that NDSU does have debate team...I don't think the season has started yet though. I'm not sure...I'll have to do some investigating. Anyone read Things Fall Apart by Achebe? I don't really want to read the book but must. Any information outside of Sparknotes would be appreciated. Or hey...if you want to write a paper about it for me before next Tuesday...that would be awesome. No...I'm not THAT lazy. I'll write the paper. Grr. Well after listening to Sara talk about high school and Kara talk about high school, I do feel much better about college as I reminisce about those tough, darkened, and dreary days. No...it wasn't THAT bad. However, I don't think I'd want to go back. So good luck my high school friends.

Collecting Dust?

Okay. I read my way through the Blog thus far and back again. I think I "get it" now: Blogs are social cyber-gatherings for intelligent bantering and "palaver" (word of the day). In relation to mass-mails, Blogs would probably score much higher on an IQ test. That said, here goes posting!

I finally got Rejection Letter No. 3 for The Blessed. Ouch. Though I'd much rather have a query returned to my rejection folder than still sitting in drafts.

Rejection letters are all pretty standard; I should know... I've started a collection. Some people collect rocks; some people collect books; some people collect art; I collect rejection letters. What can I say? It's a hobby. That starched paper, that glistening ink, those concise, pert little words that reek of pursed lips and tie clips? Positively addicting. This last one falls into the category of "long rejection letters." Though I must say, Nathan Bransford: the loss is yours! Six drafts and probably a college degree from now, we'll just see what kind of material you are looking for... Muahahahaha!

Thank you for your recent letter. I regret to say that your work doesn’t appear to be the kind of material I am currently looking for.

However, opinions vary considerably in this business, and I wish you the best of luck in your search for representation.

Best wishes,
Nathan Bransford

I must admit, Literary Agents do get some props for being nice about rejection letters. It would be much easier for them to mimic the cola companies with a "Drink Sprite: Play Again" post card or something.
Alright, I'd better get back to my homework. I was playing relay between writing BIO objectives and reading posts. Much, much fun! Wow, I really do miss you guys!!!

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night
-Sara

It's Aliiiiiiive!

Hello College Buddies!!!!
Wow, I miss you guys sorely. I haven't exactly figured out this concept of "Blogging" but I did figure out that when you press that pretty button with the words "Log in" on them, they give you other buttons, and eventually your allowed to do all sorts of things involving font and posting. Truly, truly incredible. At this rate, I might even be able to turn my lap-top on when it arrives! What progress! Though I was a fan of my mass-mail button...

Anyway, I had to come on here to assure you all that, yes, I am still alive, though I'm afraid I don't have much of a life what with homework and all (AP Bio may be the death of me), I must ask... how is college homework wise in relation to AP's? Do college kids get to practise this thing called "sleep?" I've heard all sorts of rumors about its health benefits, but then again, I figure it's probably just another one of those fads, you know, like Atkins.

Alright, I'm probably going to go read all of your other postings for now, just to see if I can get the swing of this joint.

Oh, and, I know I just sent this to you other core Bloggers here (don't check my grammar on that statement) but I figure I might as well post it because it is so inspiring.

www.kittenwars.com

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
Much love!

(Are you supposed to sign off on a blog post or is it supposed to be one of those suave one-liner statements like "The sun always shines brighter on Mercury?")

I wish it were different, but...

Oh my gosh, I have the best quote to share with you all. Unfortunately, the very reason it's funny may spark controversy on this blog. Let's just say I may have talked to a former Amity Scholar (sp?), who may have said something extremely funny about someone of the male gender. Yep, it pretty much rocks. All those wishing to know what was said may post a comment, then I will get it to them someway somehow. So, how is everyone? I know Crystal is pulling one of her freakishly smart moves and skipping another grade, but I feel like I need more from everyone else. Non contributers included. How is everyone in "Blog Land?" Not much going on here, can ya tell?

...is it tomorrow yet? (edited)

... I want it to be tomorrow night. badly. two more days (because I'm busy all of today and tomorrow, it counts as two) until Logan and Kara are here. and I'm impatient. *taps foot* not to mention this "staying up until 1 am trying to finish all her homework for the weekend" thing is taking a lot out of me. I was up 'til 12:45ish both last night and the night before, doing my Writing homework (that isn't due until Tuesday) and my Educational Psychology (due Monday) and I still haven't finished my Ed. Psych. *hisses at evil book* too much homework. At least I only have 3 subjects left. and two of them go relatively quickly, so I -should- be able to finish tonight.... provided I pull another 1 am. ewwww. *shrug* oh well.

I really love this concept of chapel time. there's an hour where all classes are canceled so we can go to chapel. think I'm going? of course not. so I roll out of bed and go to my 8:30 class after waking up at 8:20... then come back and shower, etc. during chapel time. best. invention. ever. more sleep for me, and it really doesn't matter if I look presentable during Aural Skills because it's 8:30 am and about half of us don't, and none of us care. Score one for college social rules. :D

Holy crap. so... guess what I did today? I saved myself $28,000 dollars. How did I do that? I became a sophomore. I have enough credits from my AP's and various other tests to give myself 7.25 credits, which officially makes me a sophomore. so. let's do some math. I need 31.5 credits to graduate. if I now have 7.25 credits, and I'm currently taking 4.25 credits, then after this semester, I'll be at 11.5 credits. now, add 4 credits for each of the next 5 semesters (2.5 years) and how many credits do I have? 31.5. I can logically graduate in 3 years. I am now a proud member of the Concordia Class of 2009. Guys, I just skipped another grade. Kick Ass. :D

I do, however, need to go grab my obnoxious set of TH books and go to class, but I shall talk to you all later, (and see Logan and Kara tomorrow! :D)

Love you all!

Twist of fate...or not

So...my wish of having words to twist and mangle has come true literally just seconds ago. I now have someone to quote. My dearest Rianna said, "All humans do it. It's natural Sarah." (Anyone who knows the things I ask questions about might find this a little more funny) Take it as you will because I do not care to explain it...unless you really want me to, but then it loses any humor it may have had.

Things like chemistry

If that reminded you of a Reliant K song...I totally applaud you. It was sort of meant to...sort of not. College fairs fairly fine. I just finished typing a lab report for biology...a short one at that...really not very much fun. Really. I had to find some primary sources and read through pages of scientific mumbo jumbo. I finished reading The Bluest Eye, for anyone interested, it is a very good book. It has some "sexually explicit" scenes, but they are necessary and really add to the themes of racism and self-worth. Other than that...I have no exciting revelations or famous quotes or even a completely appropriate comment that I could make sound incredibly inappropriate by taking it out of context. Too bad. And if this blog is going to be reduced to my random babblings...wow. Seriously, Sara...Crystal...are you guys alive? I mean...I can understand Crystal burying herself in a practice room and only coming out to feed (once every 3 days). However, Sara...you have no excuses.

Non-excitement

Source

Today was relatively blah other than the power going out around one thirty and being out for about an hour, which then caused me to be up until about three thirty. And I even went to bed around eleven; I thought I was getting a good night's sleep!

Otherwise, boring. Seriously, I thought I was going to fall asleep during Psych (which probably would have been a better use of my time...), and Chemistry is going quite well. What can I say? I like Chemistry; it makes sense in my brain. I also saw the second hour tile from 2005 Chem; Crystal, Crystal, Crystal... it really was all about the homework wasn't it?

I think I kind of get the Journal thing now; although, I'm not 100% on that because Niemi is still bouncing around from subject to subject when she explains things, but I do think I followed. And now I desperately want to read Lolita after that Nabokov essay we read today; he writes very well.

Oh! Gilby went and changed my grade in Physics for me. Yay. That made me happy; I was sitting in there sixth hour doing my homework and he asked if he had changed it for me, and I said I wasn't sure, so he went and did it. Gilby really is awesome. I'm going to miss having open sixth next semester, because it's really convenient to sit in there with Gilby and do my homework. A little talking but I won't become so distracted I won't get it done; it's perfect.

James Begs to Differ...

(Names blocked out to protect identity.) Howdy Hi everyone! It's been a while since my lasst post, so I have much to tell you about nothing at all. My pointless essay is out of the way now. I can't say it's a masterpeice, but it was the best I could do, given the prompt. In case anyone cares, writing below one's intelligence level is very difficult. My government class is going to be easy, but boring. It's a rerun of AP gov, and so I already know and underrstand most of what she's teaching. In fact, I wrote this post in class, then retyped it when I got back. Oh my gosh! Guess who is coming to speak at Hamline, and we are even required to go to one of his lectures (although I'm considering going to both)! Amitai Etzioni! No joke! OK. So most of you don't care because you didn't use his theory of communitariansim as a criterion in a debate case, but this is a huge deal! I'm pretty excited, anyway. I seriously need to start up my caffeine habit again. Sleeping in class is not a good thing. Other than that, I can't say anything that interesting has happened. My mom's coming down this weekend, which I am super excited about. We're going to go shopping, since I do not have enough warm weather clothes for the up and coming winter season. Speaking of which, I really think that it should go from 70 degrees to -40 all at one time. As an arthritis sufferer, I would be ok with that. None of this slow transition so that transitition stiffness is ongoing over a month or so. Let's have it all be over with in one day. Maybe I'll talk to Chuck Norris about that...

Hydrocarbons and Birth Certificates

So, I had my first college test today. It was a biology exam. Not quite sure that I did extremely stellar. I think I probably pulled a B. Hopefully anyway. I guess not too much happening over here in North Dakota. My boss scheduled me to work this friday though, after I blantantly told him I did not want to work on Friday's because I had class. He scheduled me 5-9:30. I have class until 5. Grrr. I told him I'd be there as soon as I could (I really should tell him that I am unwilling to work Friday, but I want money and I could spare my time and social life).
On another note, whoever has not read James' comments (and my response) on my last blog should read them. It is vital that you understand the fact that Love Fern is indeed mine, and it's name is not Laverne. Oh...the arguement about greeness....yeah Love Fern is definitely more green. Photo evidence is included.

Ok...now that it is clear to see how very green Love Fern is...here is something else to consider:

Look how Love Fern is just bursting with love! Oh yes...that love is all from me.

Today's excitement!

The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends.
Source

I had my first Debate practice ever; it wasn't quite what I was expecting. Apparently 21 possible novi turned up, so Deebs took us to the "language lab" and we got to go over October's Public Forum topic. It's this little bit of earth shattering verdict:

Current immigrations laws in the United States should be enforced.

Oooh! Exciting! And broad. Seriously, this is so wide open. Dory was pretty classic during a couple times, talking about Golden Paved streets and something else that caused Deebs to stare blankly at him for a minute. Poor Dory; we love you, even if you're a little spacey.

Other than that, pretty boring average day, other than Peterson's two tests. If he does this double up on Psych and Euro students often, I think I'm going to cry. I like both classes, but if I have to remember one more, Psych's going to win just because it's easier to remember. And I want to do well in Euro. Oh well, it's just one test.

Oh, and due to a strange request, I have included another quote today. It's from my current song choice.

Here's to the nights we've felt alive, here's to the tears you knew you'd cry, here's to goodbye, tomorrow's gonna come to soon
"Here's to the Night," Eve6 (tastefully named after an X-Files episode)

Pointless Babble...What else is new?

What do I really have to say? I guess not too much...but since someone has to battle Rianna and Kara for posts I might as well go for it. I know Kara and Rianna have already heard this, but to anyone else, I was talking to James on the phone the other day and this is what he said: "It's not my responsibility to live up to the plant's expectations." Now, naturally this is taken completely out of context, which is what makes it sound absolutely ridiculous. And if he tells you the plant's name is Laverne...he's wrong. I'm the plant's mother...me...I nuture it with more love than he could ever give that fern, which would be why it is growing like twice as tall now that it is in my posession.

Strange things...

I worked at the resort for the most likely last time this year today and I finally got to drive the golf cart! I've worked there two years, you would think I would have driven one of them before, but nope.

However, I really should go and finish reading my European History chapter and do the little bit of Lang that I have. Oh, and my nose is cold. Not that you all really care, but it is.

Rianna started it...

So Rianna made a comment about how she and Kara post more, so I figured I'd prove her wrong. so here I am. School is going fine, I have a not-unhealthy amount of homework... enough to keep me busy. I don't have any fun pictures because I don't have a digital camera (actually... I didn't have a camera until yesterday) ... I did talk to Taylor yesterday and find out that he and Lisa aren't coming up this weekend. That made me very sad. :( at least that way I have an excuse for visitors in that spanse of a month between when Kara comes (three weeks) and Rent (third week in October) so yah. but speaking of homework, as I predicted, I fell asleep reading my homework (damn, missed dinner again. so much for eating on weekends) so I need to go finish it. talk to you all later. *hugs*

... quote

Source

And when did it get so cold? I don't like cold weather.

Let me save you some money and time.

I went to see "John Tucker Must Die" at the dollar theater in town last night. It was part of "welcome week" here. It's probably the worst movie I've ever seen. It might actually be worse than the Leonardo DiCaprio movies I hate. That's pretty bad. Save your money (I only wasted a dollar, thank goodness) and skip this one.

Idea!

I think this blog needs a regular feature, so I have decided to take a famous person and for a month put up quotes by them; hopefully daily, but more likely when I remember. This month I will be featuring Friedrich Nietzsche, a German Philospher.

Today's quote:
Morality is herd instinct in the individual.

Also, while you're at it, check this out.

I apologize for flirting with everyone I know and don't know, and maybe some things that don't breathe.

Read this article. Kara, you'll really get a kick out of it. The link was just below something that had to do with shoes. Obviously it peaked my interest. I accidently clicked on the one below it, however, and ended up reading this article. I laughed, then decided you all must read it. Not even the whole thing, just the first couple paragraphs is enough to tell one you've flirted with inanimate objects. Enjoy!

Maybe the tips about avoiding rape that my grandma gave me will come in handy

So basically, on August 29th some girl outside of a dorm about a block from mine was grabbed from behind by a young black male. He grabbed her around the waist and her right arm. He used sexually "graphic" commentary. He then proceeded to follow her to her car. She drove away and left him there. The police are still looking for him. I think that is a little creepy. But oh well. I guess maybe I shouldn't be walking alone across campus at night after I just got done working out.

First day of school blues...

It was strange to walk into the high school today... okay, strange after I got over the fact I'm still pissed that I'm in the Lower Lot. All of my classmates were in H-Link, which is where it all started. To me, probably forever, H-Link will be the place I was inhabiting slightly suspiciously; a junior out among all the seniors. But it's also a reminder that a great majority of the people I spent last year/this past summer with are all at college now. Walking the halls was different too... I'm not really sure how, just that when I'm walking around I was struck that I really am part of the oldest bunch in the high school.

I went to the assembly they had this morning; only because Sara and Michelle aren't quite the rebels I am (and Gilby and Blong both had sophomore homebases) and I didn't want to go alone to talk to someone. Raz wasn't there; it's not a big thing, just a reminder that things are different.

I like my classes and my teachers. Lang's going to be interesting; I'm really looking forward to it. In fact, it's probably the class I'm least worried about even if I think it'll be my worse grade overall. I'm trusting Niemi because everyone has told me to. I won't mind Peterson; really, I won't. European History and Psych have the lucky distinction of the classes I wanted to take the most, so that helps, but he reminds me of Hewitt, and although, I wasn't close with Hewitt or anything, but we got along and that's good enough. Qualley seems awesome (has to be an improvement over last year), and she has a plan in mind for AP Spanish so that's reassuring. It's a lot of interspersed work, and I know I just have to work on my speaking, but it's convincing myself to sound like an idiot. I'm relatively apathetic about Lundgrin and Chemistry; I honestly believe it has to be better than Physics (I'd take the class over again and get the same grade to have Gilby for another year though), but the first few weeks look like a lot of busy work and review, which is good because I'm a little shaky on Stioch, and I really want to know how I did on that "Pre-Test" aka the actual AP test of doom on the first day back. Of course now that I've talked with Pelkey, I wish I would have had time to take AP Stats in the class because he seems amazing. I'm kind of worried about Stats but I told him that I would come to him with any questions, and first semester at least he'll be there at least at the beginning of sixth hour if I have any questions.

Lade's gone too, which is about as hard as I expected it to be. Somehow I just kind of thought he would always be there and now that the school year has started, I can't pretend he's not. Oh well...

It was a good day, just a little lonely.

Hi all! I'm starting to adjust now. It's really great! I may have a roommate after all, I meet her in an hour or so. My family sent me a care package, and I got that today. It is sooo cool. They sent me a snap cup. I'm not even joking. With the snap cup song and everything. I may or may not have shed a tiny tear when I opened it. OH! Crystal! I met this guy today who reminded me of you. He plays, like four different instruments, and he skipped a year of music theory. Yeah. And he's taking Chinese. (Well, actually, that doesn't remind me of you, it's just really cool.) He's in my First Year Seminar, which means he's a Presidential Scholar. He is not the guy my sister wants me to marry, however. My sister decided that I am marrying someone named Matt (who I barely know, by the way) solely so she can have a brother in law. I'm not kidding. She told me that. I got a new cell phone, for all that care, but I still use my old one for Brainerd calls, because it's cheaper. Other than that, there's not much going on. I'm now on facebook, again, for anyone that cares. The picture is my wickedly awesome orientation group that I have class with the rest of the semester. So, basically you're looking at everyone I've met over the past 3 days. The guy my sister wants me to marry is in the brown striped shirt. Crystal, steve is behind the girl in the green jacket. I am the person who looks like me. I found out that the Pipers are indeed named after the Pied Piper of Hamline. And I was quite excited tp find there is more than one washer and drier set in this building. I think I've said what I would have told you in person, so I'm going to stop before I reach embarrasing stuff.

College v. High School

So, everyone always tells you..."wait till you get to college, it'll be so much better."
Well...yes...and then no. In hs you don't have to pay for your books and goggles for chemistry. You also don't have to pay as much for the food and you have a free place to stay. Many think that college=freedom. However, if your parents trusted you in hs then the "freedom" is not all that exciting. Oh and college classes are not easier than AP classes. At least not the ones I'm taking. But on the brighter side of things, you get to meet tons of new people, not be constantly surrounded by family (which can be a bummer at first) and your schedule is so much better. Instead of all your classes smushed into the hours 8 to 3 you get to have only a few classes a day and with lots of time between. However, my schedule maybe isn't so grand due to the fact that I have Calc II at 8 AM M-F. Oh stupid me. Anyway...those are just some thoughts... Let me know how school is going for you all.

Things may be changing...

I'm not sure if it's all going to happen as of yet, but things here might be changing, drastically. How drastically, you ask? Well... a title change may be in store. Updates will follow. But the first step; it's been taken.

I humbly accept your magnificent invitation

Hello all! (I'm loving this already!) I moved in today. I only cried a little when my mom left. It was raining, so no one could tell, though. So far, my roomate has not shown up. I thought she was coming, she told me she was... confusion. Mostly panic, though. What if I have to get everything she was bringing? No, I'm just kidding, I'm not THAT heartless. A little, perhaps, but not that bad. I think I'll be okay here, despite what I thought earlier today. Hmmm... I think that's enough boringness for one post. I promise to post more weird/boring stuff later on! Have no fear!

for Jann

the night I called you in the rain, I went home and ate a bagel. There. I ate something. :p Not because I was hungry, but because you told me to.

Guys, take note

I will admit: overly romantic and me, they're just not compatible, which is why as much as I love Crystal, some of the things she thinks are romantic I find impratical and slightly irritating.

So, read this article men of the world, because I know I'm not alone in my sentiment.

"Who's Going to Clean Up This Romantic Gesture?"

Favorite line: Frankly, it wasn't so much "love at first sight" on my part as, "Hmm, should I see this guy or Neil?"

Yes, this article made my day. Just thought I might brighten yours.
