In All Fairness.

So, I was thinking, and realized that we're being unfair. I mean, Affirmative Action says equality of gender right? I think it's time we opened up some discussion about mens issues. So I thought since we talked about the brands and comfort of tampons last time, we'd stick with the theme. What are the best brands of jock straps? Which are more comfortable, cost effective, and protective? Max, I think since you inspired the latest string of posts, perhaps you would like to lend some authority?

Pretty coat!

Hee. Just for Max. A clothing post! This is the amazingly pretty spring/fall coat I bought today. It makes me really, really happy. :D

(There you go Kara, I found a way to show you before Friday!)

As per Max's Request

Max requested a "possibly interesting" post about a girly topic. I thought I'd oblige.
Tampons. We all know them and love them, but what's the best brand to use? I mean, there's Kotex, Platex, OB, Tampax, and many generic brands. How's a girl to choose? Can we trust the commercials? To top it all off, there are different strengths for different stages of the period. Typically there's light for light days, medium for average days, and super for heavy days. I guess it's all about taste, really. I thought I'd bring in some testimonials, and then we could discuss brands and/or the acuracy of the testimonies.
"I was a Playtex user for thirty years, too, and I won't use anything now but Pearl!!"
- Karen T.
"I just tried the new Tampax Pearl tampons and I absolutely love them! They were exactly what I was looking for and desperately needed in a tampon." - Julie H.

Alright ladies and Max...discuss.

Goddammit

This blog should be about girly stuff, goddammit. Who the hell keeps posting articles of substance on this blog? This blog was created for girls to talk to eachother, and eventually expanded to keep girls in touch with eachother. There should never be anything on this blog that doesn't apply to our girly nature. Henceforth, please limit you posts to cooking, cleaning, and discussions of beauty products. Some posts about child rearing will also be allowed, but monitered. Thank you. The Management.

You are coming to a sad realization. Cancel or allow?

Hello All!
Let's start at the begining:

Friday: Sat in my dorm reading random stuff and watching TV. Talked to Kara on the internet, and watched Thursday's Grey's Anatomy (OH MY GOSH, by the way!)
Saturday: Slept in! Yeah! Then I watched movies, read homework, and cleaned. Random occurance, I watched "She's All That" on Starz or HBO or something. Later that day, I watched "NOT Another Teen Movie" on Comedy Central, which mocks "She's All That." It was probably the best sequence of movie events EVER!

Sunday: Well, this day is best explained in pictures:

The night began with subs, but soon became a dance party to various songs. Here we see Michelle and Sara jamming to "Vehicle."

More Vehicle fun.

Next, we switched to Backstreet Boys, and Michelle showed me her sweet moves.

Sara decided Backstreet Boys was not her thing. She decided to look at blogs instead. A noble pursuit.

Good times had by all. Especially since this guy was there.

Sara, your pictures would add greatly to my poorly contructed narrative. :)

I'm scared for the future of America. Right now.

Okay, so usually I'm of the belief that America's future will work itself out. On the whole, there are enough people with a good education out there that nothing too horribly awful could happen. Then I got this e-mail from my Education professor today. He sent out an e-mail with excerpts from our first clinical reflection paper. Now, the quotes below are from people that are currently in college and are studying to be teachers. These are the people that could be teaching your children. Just let that sink in for a minute. Have fun.

  1. The environment in my classroom is warm, inviting, and small
  2. It’s almost loud and rowdy, as children come in and out for assistance.
  3. The class size in both of the classes that I help in is less than 10 students each.
  4. There is also a family of gypsies with three of children coming to this room.
  5. I believed that the students would be concerned with getting their homework done on time and correct.
  6. It is not uncommon for kids to converse back in forth in Spanish at times.
  7. The final half an hour, from 9:30 to 10:00
  8. I believe that the teacher I work is very similar to myself in how we relate with kids.
  9. Me and the other clinical students present, there are usually three of us, usually sit off to one side and observe how the teacher approaches each question the students have and, more importantly, how she works with each child knowing that they are all at different places in the subject they are studying.
  10. My clinical experience is at Moorhead High School.
  11. The students range from Hispanic, to African, to Romanian.
  12. The kids have become welcoming to.
  13. I have helped students in all most every subject.
  14. None of the students have an American ethnicity.
  15. I play a very active role in the class room.
  16. Teachers play a role in helping students make decisions in their life.
  17. The classroom appears to fallow the Romantic method.
  18. Of course every kids has their day but for the most part the students are very considerate of others when they are reading and are very polite each other.
Maybe I'll transfer.

Pachelbel Rant

I found this on Facebook and it's brilliant. I realize that many of you may not find this that funny... but cut me some slack... I'm a band geek. You should watch. *nods*

Happy Valentine's Day Yo!

Apparently this is what I would look like as an M&M.
I need a good exercise music mix, any suggestions?
I really need to do my laundry, this is crazy. I don't have any pants to wear tomorrow, so either I do laundry tonight, or I don't wear pants tomorrow. I'll let you guys vote.
Speaking of crazy: My friends' neighbor is driving me crazy. How annoying can one person be? He is EVERYWHERE, totally clingy, and only talks about two things: drinking and his sex life. I'm sure his girlfriend will be THRILLED to know that we know exactly what positions she tried this week.
So, I watched this video about Hieronymus Bosch today in Art History. That was one creepy dude. I'm pretty sure that if he came up behind me in dark alley, I'd stab him with my rape pen.
For those of you without a date today, try this, or if that's not your thing, this.
What's the weather supposed to be like tomorrow, maybe I can wear a skirt...

Teacher Power Struggles?

Hey Nation Neighbors!
My dad and I were talking music and Dan Newton came up. I was pingponging his name around the internet for a bit when I came up with this stunning commercial quip. This is for you guys (well, mainly the first line). Bon Appetite.

Dan Newton's La Vie Musette:
A time when mustachioed men in berets sipped strong coffee from tiny cups, and smoked unfiltered cigarettes. Couples danced the waltz, tango, and polka on lamp-lit barges, in bistros, and sidewalk cafes. Experience "the musette life" through the sixteen classic, traditional, and original tunes in this collection including: Violetera, Volupta, Brise Pied, Los Pastres, and La Vie Musette.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch... Melby said the fourth horn part is on my shoulders for Solo Ensemble tomorrow. Yay! *Pats French Horn*. Peterson was very proud of himself for having us pulled out of band to make up the Euro Test we'll be missing. He was bragging to all of the other Social Studies teachers as he led us down the hall to the SRC. Yes, he got us all out of band. For once, the music department was going to see what it was like having kids pulled out of class for someone else's activities! Muahha!

That's about all, folks. Take care all! Yay for visiting Rianna this weekend! Speaking of which... what's the latest update on Hannah, dear?

Nasty Finals

gregariousmime.blogspot.com !

Short stories, publishing opportunities, random comments that don't really fit anywhere else? I'm going to shamelessly self advertise here, mainly because I cannot add myself as a link on this page because I gave up my super power and then was reinvited as a smaller power... like Catholicism in France during and after the French Revolution? Not quite. Maybe just France in general during and after the French Revolution. That's a little bit more like it. I think I'm going to go curl up with my Euro now. Nasty finals.

Random Question...

Sara and Michelle: Are you guys coming on Sunday? If so, what time? Actually, if you guys are still planning on coming, give me a call. Kara has my number.

Hi guys! I came to remind you again that I'm not neglecting you, I love you all very much, and I love hearing about how everyone is! Not much has been going on for me - I've been practicing for a horn quartet *fingers crossed*, (Over three hours one day, Crystal! Be proud! During Band, my AP Study Hall, and an hour after school with the group, plus practice at home...!)but who knows, the fourth horn part might go to Maria, who is an amazingly talented sophomore. Other than that, my space heater broke, but we got a new one. Um... I borrowed a CD of my Dad's gregorian chant music. Monks are cool. I dropped AP Calc for Creative Writing on a whim (I try not to make any major life decisions on a whim, but this one was well worth it). I'm enjoying my freedom. I filled out the evil essay on the Hamline Presidential Scholarship form. It was honestly the worst question I have ever read, but I at least got something written. The cold weather is nice. The sky is blue. My dad keeps buying Captain Crunch for my brother (who dyed his hair orange and shaved it all off...) and my dog is in severe need of a haircut. I did Story Telling in the last speech meet. There was a story about a man who stuck gold up his donkey's bum, which was mildly ackward to tell, but, hey, that was the story and I stuck to it!

That's about all for me. Not too much going on. Just enjoying life, really, which is nice. I've even gotten sleep lately. I watched the old 1970's Peter Pan movie, the other day, just to see him (or actually, her... Mary Martin) have his/her shadow sewn back on. I love J.M. Barrie (no one say anything about pedophelia!). I kept thinking about him during Walter Mitty for some reason. It was very, very strange. I'm going to have to go rent Finding Neverland again. Ooh! And I learned how to cook. I even made tuna noodle caserole from scratch, and chocolate chip cookies, too. Flour, butter, and all that good stuff! I love having time to breathe!

Uneventful

You must not know 'bout me
I could have another you in a minute
Matter fact, he'll be here in a minute
Source

This is weird. No, seriously, I am home on a Saturday, as in, I slept in my own bed last night, as in, I haven't left the house since I arrived home after school yesterday. The last time I was home on a Friday night was one over Christmas break, so excuse me if this is kind of a strange concept for me to be here. And the last time I did absolutely nothing over a weekend was one in early November; I think I'm going to go insane.

In other news, my week was pretty blah. I missed a day of school (thank God) on Wednesday for Knowledge Bowl; what can I say? Knowledge Bowl is fun, but not as fun as I remember. Probably because Sara and CaLyn both dropped out (and Sarah and Rianna graduated), and therefore, the competing is fun but I really don't have anyone to sit with for lunch. So, I sat with the guys and read my Human Geography (yes, it was exciting, shut up).

I'm going to be gone next Thursday to help out the Junior High Knowledge Bowl kids, and I'm thrilled. Kevin and James will be helping out too, but that's not why it's awesome. I get to see Brian, Jenna, Chelsea, Tom and Luke. What can I say? I miss them. Then I'm judging Speech that same night; it'll be enjoyable (or excruciatingly painful, I haven't decided yet). Then Friday is an early out; not sure how I feel about that as of yet, but whatever.

I heart band!

So I've been on band tour since Tuesday, and I've had the most amazing week. Granted, bus sleeping does not equal bed sleeping, but I've been sleeping a lot because we've had a total of about 22 hours on the bus... and most of that time was dedicated to sleeping. yay! There were a few moments on tour during the concerts where I was listening and the only thing that popped into my head was "wow. This is why I love band. It's so pretty. Jones started getting teary eyed last night during the Gillingham... everything fell into place. it was amazing. Summary of tour:
Tuesday: leave Moorhead, arrive Decorah. Play concert in beautiful hall. Concert went well. Homestay.
Wednesday: leave Decorah, arrive Des Moines. Discover that the truck with the percussion stuff, the dresses, and the music is on the side of the road and has broken down. Wait for truck. Truck arrives. Play concert in crappy hall. Not great concert. Homestay. We get home, and our host sister accidentally burned the hell out of the brownies she was making. Smoke everywhere. Good laugh.
Thursday: Leave Des Moines, arrive Cedar Rapids. Play very good concert. See uncle that I haven't seen or talked to in 9 years. Awkward. But good time. Homestay.
Friday: Leave Cedar Rapids, arrive Stillwater. School is having lockdown drill, which causes slight delay. Beautiful hall, amazing concert. Leave Stillwater for cities. Party bus! (aka, put in CD of dance music, and entire bus stands in aisle and dances all the way to Minneapolis. First college party. I'm pathetic.) Get lost in Minneapolis, eventually find the Hyatt. Check in, do homework, sleep at 1.
Saturday: Wake up at 10:30, out of hotel at 11. Find Caribou Coffee, sit and do homework for most of the day. Phone call at about noon... it's my dad and my brother. Lorne tells me he's engaged. Crystal freaks out for a little while. She's better now. Still ignoring homework, she types this post.

I still heart band.

Observations/Questions of the Week

1. There is no way in Hell I can eat 11 doughnuts before they go stale.
2. Apparently everyone on my floor is dieting. Or full. Wimps.
3. David Bowie is creepy.
4. If given a chance to do only reading homework for the next 3 weeks, I will put it off as long as possible.
5. Dishes do not wash themselves. Why not? They will get dirty enough to walk away, why can't they walk themselves into the bathroom and wash themselves?
6. Does my Stats Professor want to stab a pencil through his eye while teaching "mean, median, and mode" as much as I do when I have to learn it?
7. If the same professor quit ignoring the "What Not to Wear" rules about pants length, he would look much taller.
8. Two days later, his pants are the right length. I was right. He did look taller.
9. Why won't my hair curl as nicely as my Art History Prof's hair? Hers is amazing.
10. This song makes a great "walking and singing in a group" song. It's also a good one to send to your boyfriend when you're breaking up with him because he thinks all Freshman girls are naieve and desperate. Or at least that's what Jessica told me.
11. Magnetic Poetry never has the word you need to complete a sentence.
12. Music will temporarily distract you from, "Holy crap it's cold out here. No human being should be outside when it's this fricken cold. Why am I here again? I could have chosen Florida. Or California. Or Arizona. Or the North Pole. Any of those would be warmer than here right now. But OH NO! I had to go to Hamline. And I had to chose the "Quiet Floor," wich is in the Heights, which are in the middle of fricken no where!" With music it goes something like this: "Cold, cold, cold, wait! Good part! 1-2-What I want, and what I need, have now become the same thing... cold. Holy crap. What did I do to dese-offering! What I want! is what I need!"
13. ALWAYS unplug your curling iron after you use it, and then stare at it a few seconds so that you remember it's off. Otherwise, between classes when you could have been doing reading in the nice warm GLC, you will end up running back to the Heights, and up four flights of stairs to turn it off, only to find out that the damn thing has been off the whole time. Grrr.

I think that's it for this week. I get to go yarn shopping tomorrow. That'll be fun. Don't worry, I'll tell you what I buy. I'd write more, but I'm late for lunch. First, though, I better check the damn curling iron...

It's fricking freezing; why do I live here again?

Now turn away,
'Cause I'm awful just to see
'Cause all my hairs abandoned all my body,
Oh, my agony,
Know that I will never marry
Source

Nearly two weeks into the new semester, and can I say it again? Thank God Psych is done! I no longer dread fourth hour, and Human Geo has been nice so far. No outrageous stories to report as of yet, but I truly see the potential for interesting things to happen in that class. And no Powerpoints! Yay! I hate Powerpoint. And paper. Too bad Deebs won't ever stop giving me paper.

Tomorrow I get to see Crystal, Sarah and Rianna! I'm so excited! This weekend is going to be a blast. I have directions, a car (an emergency car kit too), clothes and food! We get to go shopping for Crystal! Sweet. I like shopping; it's fun.

Random Lang comment: Can I just be very glad that my synthesis essay came back wonderfully? Because Niemi did manage to thoroughly freak me out with the way she was freaking out about the last one. I like the class, therefore I'm caring. Man, if I cared in every class, what would my life be like? I don't know. I'm considering caring about Euro for the next test, just to see how things go.

More for Rianna than anyone else, but here is Brian's article for Fine Arts Student of the Week. And if you really want, she wrote an article about Debate yesterday, but it's cringe-worthy and I don't suggest reading it.
