Break and movies, yay!
So, break has come, yay! After that seriously messed up shortened week, I was just glad it was all over. I am never doing that many slides in two days ever again! I haven't really got too many plans for break; my grandmother and my aunt are coming up on Christmas day. My aunt is staying until Tuesday, and my grandmother is actually moving in with us. That is going to take some getting used to, but I've known about this since July so I should be used to the idea by now.
I kind of want to see a movie on Christmas Day, but Brainerd really does not have a movie I want to see. "memoirs of a Geisha," no, we're not getting that (although, I doubt the movie will live up to the book); "Brokeback Mountain," which opened in wide release when? Or has it? I do want to go and see that, although, I still can't see an R rated movie by myself yet (just five more months). The only movie that Brainerd has that I'm tempted to see is "Rumor Has It..." and I have no clue why. It doesn't look great; in fact, it looks just like your typical romantic comedy, but I still kind of want to see it. I think by admitting that, I just admitted that I can be girly sometimes.
I am getting "Serenity" for Christmas, so that should make things all better. After watching the last episode of "Firefly" again today, I can't wait. I miss Joss Whedon on television; and I never actually saw any of his stuff while it was in first run. Oh, and I saw when "The Constant Gardener" goes to DVD, January 11th. I'm going to have to rent that one because I love Ralph Fiennes.
Oh, and a book recommendation:
Gone With the Wind. Seriously, it's good. Very good; I read it back in ninth grade, and when I was sitting in the library on Monday doing Lit, I noticed it and had to check it out again. It's not only a love story, and a messed up one at that, but it's very good historical fiction. Besides, male or female, how can you not love Rhett?
Christmas (Ball) and calc...
Hey, look, it didn't take me about a month and a half to update again; go me! Christmas break is in five days after a three day week, yes! I'm really looking forward to it; the way things are shaping up, I'll only have Art History homework, which is not bad at all.
Although, we have this Calc test that we
have to take before break that I'm not looking forward to. (Note to self: No more Independent Studies) I've tried the last two days to get Blong to explain how I get a definite answer when I'm anti-deriving an e^x and sin(x)/cos(x) function, but he hasn't answered. It's like, just do it once; I know I'm close! And none of us are getting it, even with the stupid videos.
Oh, and I'm one of about eight people that will not be attending Christmas Ball tomorrow. Personally, I have no desire to be in a room/rooms, I've never gone so I don't really know the set-up, with lots of people I see at school and am thankful I only see there. Plus, spending around $50 at the minimum for a dress I'm going to wear once, maybe twice, makes absolutely no sense to me. Sure, I could hang out with my friends, dance, talk, etc. But why can't we just do that at someone's house where we can choose the music and not have to wear a dress? Oh, and having to listen to what is almost guaranteed to be crappy music for several hours does not appeal to me. I need to have music on at basically all times, but no bad music; then I prefer silence.
So I set this up, and then nothing happened
All right, so I am horrible at updating. When did I last post anything? October? Hmm... has anything really exciting happened since then? No, not really. Oh, Knowledge Bowl has started, which is fun. If I'm lucky, I'll be on one of the top two teams. Hey, I managed to go from team six to team three last year, so I guess anything is possible.
They're cutting the AP program back next year even more; according to my counselor, twenty to twenty five students will now be required per AP class. So, what do you think my chances are at getting a European History class together? (And are there
any rules in the English language that do not have exceptions to them?) Basically impossible, yeah, that's what I thought. Spanish is iffy too, which irritates me; the only reason I'm taking the class this year is so that I can take it as an AP next year. Alvarez bothers me so much; most of the time if I don't like a teacher, I can put up with them by tuning them out and listening when Ineed to; not her and it bugs me.
I'm still waiting for a reply from the Stanford admissions people; it's only been a month or more. Now I understand that it's admissions time and such, but well, if you want me to apply next year, maybe you could respond to an e-mail in less time than a month. Just a suggestion.
Also, I'm learning that there are like twelve schools that offer any kind of engineering and Chinese across the country. I'm also kind of surprised to see that Stanford is back at the top of my list after retreating to second for the last couple years when I went through my English phase. However, I have come to the realization that my English skills are not good enough to pursue any career based soley on English, so I've fallen back to the math/science card.
