Can Life Get Any Better?

I just got back from a trip to the grocery store with one of my closest friends here. We spent probably a grand total of and hour or so at the bus stop just chatting. This is good, since the only human to human contact I've had all weekend was a brief discussion of fish with the girl that lives down the hall when I went to the bathroom yesterday. When I got back, I turned on the television, and what great sight did I behold? abc Family is running a Gilmore Girls marathon. Holy Crap. So now, I'm lounging in my room with the warm breeze of an 84 degree day floating throug my window, watching Rory Gilmore grow up on my television. Perfect? Yes.
"But Rianna," you may be saying, "You haven't posted in a week. Surely you must have done SOMETHING interesting in those 7 days." Well. You're in luck. I have, kind of.
Monday: I got a SUPER review at work, which made me very, VERY happy. They had nothing bad to say about me, and we spent the entire 20 minute review laughing. That's pretty darn cool.
Tuesday: Put together an outline in class with a group, and had a lot of fun doing it. Seriously, who knew Global Warming could be so fun? ;) MPIRG in the evening, which is alway fun.
Wednesday: Not a whole heck of a lot, I guess. Sorry.
Thursday: Got a pledge at work, which is the first time this has happened in the last two weeks.
Friday: During the day, I surveyed people for MPIRG about their feelings on homelessness. It was fun, actually, even though I managed to screw up some of them. Friday evening: Ghost Whisperer, What Not to Wear, Numbers. All the while, talking to Kara and Crystal on the internet. Talked to my mom, which was really cool. The down side to that, though, was that I found out that one of my step brother's friends died in a car accident. He's pretty shaken up, which is bad. After enduring the evil eye from Tri-Lam for a few hours, I finally gave in and cleaned his bowl. He now gives me the, "I'm much happier now, thank you," eye. I can live much better with that. Yes, I know, I'm becoming a crazy cat lady.
Sautrday: Did nothing. Nothing. It was glorious.
I come home in 2 weeks. 2 WEEKS!!! I can't wait. It's so exciting. Woo Hoo!!!
Other than that, I think my life is pretty boring. Sorry. Hope everything is going well with you all!

Oh Yeah. Watch this.

Keep biking, just keep biking!

So it is officially over. Who won, I'm not sure, but it is over. We started biking at 9 AM to Hillsboro. 40 miles with 3 rest stops. It went pretty well until the last 10 miles or so. My contact fell out before even the first rest stop so I had to stop for a while and mess around with it. I ended up just throwing it on the ground in frustration because it would not stick to my eye. I then threw the other one to the ground as well and biked without good vision. I think this could possibly be against the law, because I would be driving without my visual aids, which is required. Of course, in that case, I was also driving without my license...hehe.

At the first rest stop I had some water and was able to meet up with the people that I originally started the race off with. We biked to the next stop which wasn't too far. By this time I was feeling pretty good. I didn't think I had pushed myself too hard, but I wasn't going extremely slow either (or at least I didn't think so at the time).

The second rest stop was the 20 mile or so marker. It was 12 miles to the next stop. After this point I started biking with my friend and hopefully future roomate, Stacie. She had a crappy bike and couldn't go that fast though. I tried to go slow, but after a while I couldn't take it anymore and left her behind. I'm really not mean, but I needed to finish the race. The wind really started to pick up and the rest of the 12 miles was really lonely. We had been told that we would bike with the wind and not against it, but that was a lie. The wind was blowing right in my face at least going 12 mph and gusting to what seemed like 20 mph or so. Wow...it was getting tough.

By the time I got to the third rest stop my legs were buring. I was also really quite hungry. However, they only had a few bags of nuts left and no fruit. I thought I'd drink a little and than grab some of the food left. However, this turned out to be a terrible decision on my part. There was nothing left by the time I was ready to eat. So I left the rest stop, knowing I only had 6 and 1/2 miles to go. I was super pumped about that, but I also knew it was past noon. That means I had been biking over 3 hours. Yuck.

The last portion was also lonely and hard, at least until I managed to catch up to a fellow biker named Matt. We kept each other company, going slowly until the end. I did manage to speed up near the very end because I was so excited to eat! At that point I didn't know I had that much energy in me! I'm ashamed to post my time, but I can't make you wait this entire time and then not tell you. I finished 4:01:01. Terrible, but I did finish, so I'm not too upset.

The meal, was pretty good. However, when I first got to the end I loaded my bike onto a big truck and then went pee! No restrooms for 40 miles...yeah...you'd be in the bathroom too! I then went to get something to eat after stretching. I was sooo hungry. I went into the dining area and wanted to eat, but there were no plates out. I asked a fellow biker about it and he said that I should go take a team picture first anyway. I seriously wanted to cry! My eyes started to get glossy and then I just took action and decided to eat. This guy could NOT keep me from the much needed food! I asked a server lady if there were plates and she gave me one. The meal was sloppy joe, chips, and dessert. Well, unfortunately there were no buns left so my sloppy joe went on top of the chips. I made up for it with dessert though. I had a rice krispie bar and a cupcake! Yum! I got a back massage from another biker too!

Well, I'm sorry I was so long winded, but it is what it is. My butt is more sore than my legs and I really feel like going for a run. It's so beautiful out! However, I must stay in my room and slave away at my speech! So I must get going now. Thanks for actually making it this far!

Oh what a beautiful morning! Oh what a beautiful day!

I'm done. It's amazing. AMAZING. No more classes for four months. *contented sigh* I managed to survive my first year of college. I just finished my Theory final; it was the last one I had to take. Last night I went back to Brainerd to see the MN Orchestra play Beethoven 8 & 3. Also AMAZING. Seriously, this is one of the best weeks I've had in a long time. I got to see Melby, Mrs. Melby, Maine, Alvarez, Deebs, Kara, Taylor, Laura, and my dogs. Sweet.

So now I have to wait until Sunday to move home. Boo graduation. Band plays three times in 24 hours. It'll be a good time. *wrinkles nose* oh well. I don't really care. Classes are done! Hee!

Okay. I'm done. Going to do something productive now. Waaaaay too much energy. Not sure what I'm going to do with it. *shrug* oh well.

FREEDOM!

:p

Oh Danny Boy!

With the weather so beautiful and the sound of bagpipes floating to my window, I cannot concentrate on my stupid Fundamentals of Economics homework! It's really quite cool that someone on campus actually knows how to play the bagpipes! They aren't extremely amazing, but good. I know it's been forever since I have posted, but here are a few things that are going on:

I have a 40 mile bike race this weekend for the Newman Center. I'm not going to "race" race, but I will be biking on the bike that I most recently purchased. It is a lovely bike, but has no name (at least as of yet). If any of you would like to pledge me some money for the race that would be excellent!

Speaking of methods of transportation, I have a car now! Yes indeed! I unfortunately have no picture, but Crystal has seen it and the beautifully plush interior! My parents bought it in the cities and I own it because I chipped in part of the cost. My new baby is named Clyde and is a 1982 Chrystler New Yorker, in no other color than chocolate. He's in great condition, but the speedometer might be off a bit.

I had an interview this Tuesday at 9:30 AM. I was back in Brainerd for that, though I told no one really. I was back, but I left as soon as I ran some errands and had the interview. It was for an internship in the pharmacy at the hospital. I hope I get it, but if I don't, I guess I will be working at Herberger's (though I may be working there whether or not I get the internship). I will be putting in an application to the Medicine Shoppe and maybe trying to persuade Walgreens that I would be a great assest to their company. Hehe. We shall see.

My school year is almost finished and next week is the last of my classes, with finals until Wednesday May 9th! Yes! I'm very excited for summer and fishing opener!

On another note, some of you may already know, but in case you didn't I figured I should mention it, because he is my boyfriend, James is back in Brainerd now. Kara and Sara are very lucky to be graced with his presence...haha...jk.

So, I really should do my homework. I'll let you all know if I die biking (which I may because its been over a week since I last worked out)! I will come back from the dead just to tell you and then return to the netherworld.

Do I really need reason?

Here is the new Kelly Clarkson single, which at the moment is dedicated to Tay. Hope everyone else enjoys it as well!

No more presents for Crystal...

I quit. Seriously. No one is allowed to buy me anything ever again. The necklace Kara bought me just broke. I'm really, really irritated. I liked that necklace a lot. *wrinkles nose* I suck at life.

Edit: On a happier note, Jann just called and I told her about it and she said she'd fix it. But still.

Weekends make me happy...

I don't have super lots of time, so here's a quick recap:
*Went Home: watched my sister dance, had dinner with my family, and appliedfor jobs.
*Saw James: had coffee, talked for a while, introduced him to my friends, had a grand adventure to the bus stop.
*Did Homework.
*Slept.
*Watched this wicked awsome music video. Be careful, it's pretty intense.
*Talked to Sarah for a grand total of 5 minutes.
All in all, a pretty good weekend.

Strange people...

So I'm sitting in my room, and Marissa has been gone for a while. There is nothing abnormal about this.

Then, the door opens rather slowly, and Marissa walks in quite sheepishly. Following her is a boy who I am told is named Jake. I get the impression they will be dating soon.

Apparently this boy has wanted to meet me. The two of them stand in the door while I sit on the futon and we talk for maybe two minutes. He tells me that my futon is uncomfortable. I tell him it's cheap so I don't really care. He asks if I know people from his town. I do not. Awkward silence. They leave.

Random people make me happy.

Classes I would like to take

So, I was taking a look at Michelle's possible schedule and that made me think there are certain classes I'd really like to take:

ENGL 3007 - Shakespeare - As an English major, I am required to take a Shakespeare course; might as well get it out of the way.
GEOG 1403 - Biogeography of the Global Garden - There is this pesky Biological Lab/Environmental Studies requirement, and this kills both of them with one class, and it even has a geography emphasis. See, I'm not stupid.
MATH 1272 - Calculus II - I thought I was done with math, but for a BS I need this class. Might as well finish it as quickly as possible before I forget Calculus completely.

Plus whatever Freshman Seminar and possibly another class; who knows? I just know that the one class I really want is the math class. Sick, I know, but at least then it can be done. I'll have one maybe two Spanish classes I'll still need to take, but that's not too big of a deal. I'll get it done eventually.

Class Advice!

I'd reccomend taking classes you'll enjoy. You don't want to struggle through your first semester of college with classes you hate. Your FYSEM is going to be your orientation group as well, so the class itself really isn't as important. Writing Through Darkness is affectionately known as the "Emo FYSEM." So, if you're into that kind of thing, go for it. Did they have the LotR FYSEM this year? I heard that one was good. Otherwise, anything with Oxendine or Jenny Keil. Or, if you can get into a FYSEM with Adai Audeh, she's amazing too. Oxendine is Poli Sci, Keil is Management and Econ, and Audeh is Art History. All of them are incredibly knowledgeable, and know a lot about the Hamline Plan and what not. These are good teachers for classes too. Winstandly is good for math-y type subjects like Statistics and Micro/Macro Econ (But Jenny Keil is more interesting). Skip Messenger (Santa Guy) is good for Anthro, but really random. It takes about a week or two to understand his thought process. He is, however, incredibly lenient, and you can talk your way into an A on a test, regardless of your score. If you have to take Freshman English, take it with Lubovich. She's an adjunct professor, but really easy to work with. I wouldn't recommend Legal Systems in American Society, unless you're hard core interested in law. It's common sense and boring. That's what I know after my first year at college. I'm afraid it's not much help, but whatever you get, it probably won't be horrible. Intro classes will be bigger, but easier than others. So if you're interested in a lot of sifferent subjects, take those. Actually, take them anyway to fulfill your Hamline Plan requirements. I know this is random, and very stream of consciousness, but I'm tired, and this is how it works. Hope it helps! Good luck! I don't get to register until Tuesday...

Literary Theory- This applies to everything!

Introduction to Poetry
Billy Collins

I ask them to take a poem
and hold it up to the light
like a color slide

or press an ear against its hive.

I say drop a mouse into a poem
and watch him probe his way out,

or walk inside the poem's room
and feel the walls for a light switch.

I want them to waterski
across the surface of a poem
waving at the author's name on the shore.

But all they want to do
is tie the poem to a chair with rope
and torture a confession out of it.

They begin beating it with a hose
to find out what it really means.

Avoidance is the best strategy...

I know we're all busy and that explains the lack of posts on this blog lately. I, however, am willing to respond to the call of duty and ignore my homework so that we may continue having posts on this blog. no need to thank me, your time in reading this is thanks enough.

MPIRG has been picking up lately. It's been a lot of fun. We have a movie night coming up this week for the Fair Trade task force (which is my task force) and I think next week is Earth Week, so we'll be having lots of fun doing campus clean-up days and climbing trees. At some point we're going to Take Back the Night to fight against abuse. In sum, this hippie-ish chick is really excited for the rest of this semester's events.

My classes are going well, or at least I think they're going well. I have pretty much all A's, which makes me very happy. We're starting to get into some really interesting stuff in pretty much everything except Statistics. Don't get me wrong, the class is good, it's just not really that thought provoking. Art History is into our last section now: everything after Baroque. It's great, and I love seeing the shifts in the artwork as different historical events come into play. I'm so taking the first half of this courses next semester. In World Politics, we're getting into national security and terrorism, which can always be a hot topic, as well as international economics. While some people in that class are driving me nuts, the class itself is great. Finally, in Anthropology, we're etting into family structure. It's amazing. There are different ways to trace lineage depending on where you are in the world, and that's what we're studying right now. It's really interesting. So classes are great.

In other random events, Saturday we had a bubbles and chalk party. And by party, I mean a bunch of us decided to chalk and bubbles to the sidewalk in front of my friends' dorm and play with them. We got a pretty intense round of "countries" 4 square going, which is a lot more fun when the people you're playing with can name more than just North America, West Europe and China. Saturday night, we had a surprise party for my firend Anne's birthday. Jess, Laura and I made falafel sandwhiches, fruit salad, and rice for dinner, and then we had cake and ice cream (all vegan, of course) for dessert. After dinner, Matt decided to give us all a preview of his outfit for Friday night's Amateur Drag Show. It was lots of great fun, with lots of silliness and bad music to spare. In other news, it is exactly one month until I am done with my first year of college. Isn't that crazy? I thought so. I really hope I can find a job over the summer, because I really need to get one. Tri-Lam is doing fantastic. He's mad at me right now, because I haven't cleaned his tank recently. It needs to be done today. *nods*. I can't handle his accusing stares any longer.

IT'S WARM OUTSIDE!!! YEAH!!! That makes me really happy. It's almost like Spring is just around the corner...

I'll leave you with a picture of my favorite drag queen and I. I'm totally jealous, because Matt is a hotter girl than I am. Really funny story about that that cannot be written here, so I will tell you all about it some other way. Check your facebook.
