Knowledge Bowl and calc

I think we're doomed to having one really sucky round each meet. This time it happened to be the first round where my scrapped together a measly 11 points. The next round was significantly better with 21 points, and then the next two were pretty even keel with 15 each; although that second fifteen was probably the most impressive fifteen points we've pulled all season long.

We played Jason's team for the last round, and managed to get 15 points; the first fifteen questions were pitiful, they got nine, we got three; but the next fiften were amazing; we turned the tables and got nine and they got three. It was just an amazing set of buzzing and guessing. In the end we cooled off and only got three more in the final fifteen and they got eight, but still, since our goal was ten, the extra five was a nice bonus.

We had our second straight day of calc study sessions; I have to say when it comes to calc teachers, Jason definitely wins out of the three we've had (Tay, Logan and Jason). He stays on task, knows what he's talking about, and does not get involved in petty power struggles with other members of the group. Basically, these two weeks will be calc heavy because I'd like to have the chapter eight test done before Tay and Crystal go to Germany.

A loyal follower...

So, I convinced Crystal to join me here. So, wacky hijinks will definitely ensue now that we are on this blog together. Maybe my uprising will come to fruitation now! Just a few more, and I'll have a full-fledged revolution. Welcome, Crystal. Hopefully we'll be able to convince people to read this.

Just a feeling I have

Yesterday I brought Jason, Crystal and Logan's (Tay and I had already pestered Blong) BC Calc grades to the guidance office during fourth, where they were very irritable with us for turning them in late; don't shoot the messenger, please. So, Crystal and I head back to get our lunch when we see Jason and Tay talking to Razidlo up ahead; I needed to talk to them, Calc thing, so we stand a little ways off, as they discuss the whole stolen property situation.

When they appear to break up, I come to talk to them about the calc study session we were going to have that night; well, Raz was not done talking apparently, and he kind of nods at Crystal in recognition and just passes over me. Now, maybe it was a height issue (although, 5'6" is not short, it's not my fault they're all 5'11" or taller) but I doubt it. Their conversation comes to a close, and one of us mentions the Calc thing, which reminds Razidlo to ask about the grades. Well, I speak for everyone when I say, yes, all of them are in. There are no further problems. This time he gives me this look; almost, an "I think I should know you, but I don't" look.

He shoos us away (because all of us have such pressing fourth hour classes), and after have left, I have the biggest feeling that he really does not know who I am. And I've decided I like being anonymous; I also like getting the "I think I should know you, but I don't" look. A nice ego booster.

Oh, and the pressing reason that the whole Calc study session fell apart: Tay had to shave, for forty five minutes. I know; it's a monumental event.

Madness, two days of madness

Oldish news (although, since I haven't been home for any extended period of time since Thursday, maybe not so much to me); the Art History field trip was amazing. I loved it all. The Asian section was without a doubt my favorite part of the entire exhibit; I spent probably a quarter of my time there with Sara and Michelle. Also, really liked the Impressionists and the Renaissance art they had. I think my favorite picture was "Penitent Magdalene" by Bartolomé Estebán Murillo; I'm not entirely sure why, but it was so amazing. Also, I managed to read a good 150 pages of "The Constant Gardner" and the entire short story of "Brokeback Mountain" on the bus; it was a good day.

Saturday I was up early again for Knowledge Bowl; we had a competition down in Little Falls and we brought 18 people about down. My team was basically the same as it was for the last meet, Logan, Tay, Sam and me, but this time around James replaced Chris Dens; it worked out for the best. And no deaths were reported, I'm happy to say. We started out in room three, spent the next two rounds in room two before spending the last round being slaughtered in room one by the Chaska team and the one of the other Brainerd teams. We managed to pull fifth, and Jason's team finished second. I'm not entirely sure how the other two Brainerd teams did but I don't think they were in the top fifteen.

After the Knowledge Bowl meet, Logan, Sara, Michelle and I went with Crystal to see "Brokeback Mountain" which included a miscommunication between Crystal and I since I thought she had said one of her parents would be there to get us in. That did not happen, instead we called Sara's dad would got us all tickets and watched the movie with us. He was awesome.

The movie was stunning, evidenced by the fact I was crying more than I care to admit. The script was remarkably faithful to the story, and the cinematography was astounding; I'm not sure I've seen a movie that was so beautifully shot. Every scene was visually perfect. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were great as well, and Michelle Williams had me crying on more than one occasion. The only line that was even slightly cheesy "I wish I could quit you" came out wonderfully, but since I have not seen any of the other movies that are nominated, I can't really make an accurate judgment if it deserves all the awards it has gotten.

After the movie, we headed over to Crystal's choir concert that was a joint one witLutheror College, something I did not realize until I arrived. They were very good, even if I was slightly creeped out by the choir director, a former student of Mr. Smith's. A relatively amusing moment occurred when I looked at my missed call list, and had two that both were from Logan's mother looking for him. Crystal hosted a couple of the choir students overnight, so we talked with them for a while, before they went to bed. Then Crystal, Logan and I watched an episode of CSI while talking about random things until Logan left to get home before curfew.

Crystal and I had a nice conversation about guys and how complicated they are, and then we went to bed at about one-ish, and was woken up by six fifteen when her dad started to cook breakfast in the kitchen (we should have slept downstairs).

We hung out at her house until she went to work at noon, and then we met my dad at Fleet Farm and I went home. Now, all I have to do is finish my letter for Daniel for Spanish tomorrow, and I'm set.
